Workday Expansion

The Workday Expansion Tab has configuration settings that allow companies with overnight Employees, or Employees who work long shifts, to have their punches and time cooperate better by aligninging their Out Punches with their In Punches.

Workday Expansion Tab
End of Day Expansion and Begin Expansion Lookback are two configuration options that work together to establish how your system handles 'Punch Matching' for each Pay Policy.
Note: These fields will auto-default to '9' and '15' respectively.

  1. End of Day Expansion
From midnight, how far into the next day will LightWork look for a Punch that qualifies for lookback?

  2. Expansion Lookback
How many hours does LightWork look back when trying to find a Punch Match?
Example: Let's say you set the 'End of Day Expansion (Hours)' to 4 hours and the 'Expansion Lookback' to 8 hours. Now, let’s say you have an Employee punch at 2 AM. Since 2 AM falls between midnight and 4 AM (expansion) then that punch qualifies for lookback matching. In our example scenario, LightWork needs to determine if 2 AM should be an In-Time or an Out-Time so it will take that 2 AM punch and 'look back' 8 hours (to 6 PM - previous day) to see if there are any unmatched Punches available – if there is, the 2 AM would be matched with that Punch and rendered an Out. Whereas, If the last Punch for that employee was before 6 PM of the previous day then LightWork will classify 2 AM as an ‘In Punch’ and it’ll have a new line on that Employee’s Timesheet.
